Song Review: Shy Kind of Guy by Gogol Bordello

“Shy Kind of Guy”

Artist: Gogol Bordello

From Album: Vio-la Intruder

If you seek bizarre and intriguing, Gogol Bordello’s Gypsy Punk is the thing for you. The group consists of emigrants of Eastern Europe who presently reside in the Lower East Side of New York City who have taken their passion for creative genre and culture-bending music and established a number of popular hits as well as a longstanding career. Although this song is not my favorite or remotely close to as popular as “Start Wearing Purple”, it still possesses the unique and interesting qualities that exist on all their albums. While maintaining a consistent musical thread connecting their songs and albums, they still manage to explore their musical abilities and a variety of instruments, keeping their audience loyal. If you like punk rock, anything possibly inspired by polka, a crusty-voiced singer accompanying upbeat instrumentals, or simply a band that seeks to continuously challenge their musical capacity, I’d highly recommend anything by this thought-provoking group.
