Top 10 Quotes: #4 “There is nothing like …

“There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you yourself have altered.” ~Nelson Mandela

This makes me think of a lot of different situations from relationships to moving to family.  I think that most people have had the situation of running into an old lover a few years after the relationship has ended.  It’s usually akward and one or the other of you are with someone else at that point, but for some reason people still have the need to suffer through a conversation with each other in this situation.  (I’m guilty of it too)  I don’t really understand why people put themselves through those conversations because you usually leave with one of two thoughts: 1. Wow does that person look great, and they’ve really made something of themselves.  Why did we break up?  Or 2. Yeah, that person is still the same creep I remember from years ago.  Don’t people ever change?

Whether you leave thinking either 1 or 2 or maybe a whole different range of other ideas, after the thought of the other person runs through your head you start to think about yourself.  Or at least I do… I think of all the ways that I’ve changed, some for the better and some for the worse.  Most of the time there is nothing like that feeling of realizing that I’m slowly becoming a better person.
