He watches his son ask he begs for 5 more minutes of a movie he sees a glimpse of the future. One of those glimpses like deja vu that he always sees and forgets only to see it again as it happens. He sees his son older as he saw his younger brother, as he saw his nephew and others he watched grow up in front of him. Time races by his eyes leaving a blur of years. His facial features catch up with his big brown eyes, teeth fall out and grow in, baby fat burns while muscles grow, his frame grows and his legs get longer, his hands and feet get bigger. His smile remains as vibrant as ever, his pouting lips get even more full and his yells turn to roars, his protests against “night night” lessen as he begs for more naptimes. His playmates turn to girlfriends and friends. His baby boy is growning up, no longer the little one asking for daddy to lay down next to him as he sleeps, no longer the baby who needed the drum of his father’s heartbeat to lull him sleep. Tuck-ins are a thing of the past. Time has taken his son and had its way with him. He snaps out of his gaze. The little peak at fate’s plan is over and he hugs his son and savors the past, the present, and the future that he will forget until he relives it.
